About
Dr. Negin Tahvildary is currently a faculty member at California State University, Fresno and collaborates with the Departments of Philosophy and Linguistics. Since 2010 that Tahvildary has moved to US, she has taught several courses in peace and conflict studies, Middle East studies programs as well as ethics.
In order to raise students’ understanding of cultural and societal dimensions of peace and conflict management, she has developed several courses within the program and incorporated in her syllabi, the educational content based on her background both as a lawyer and a UN officer with years of experience in Iran and Afghanistan.
She has worked at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the United Nations' Assistance Mission to Afghanistan, which is part of UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (UNDPKO). Tahvildary has a law degree and a PhD in comparative international studies, both from Iran.
Current Work:
Since 2015, Dr. Tahvildary is supervising the Mediator Mentors Program at Fresno State, which is an excellent service-learning opportunity for students, school teachers and counselors to provide mentoring and mediation services to several school districts in the Central Valley.
Prior to her collaboration with Fresno State, she worked respectfully as legal adviser and information officer for the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Iran and United Nations Assistant Mission to Afghanistan. The latter is a part of the Department of Peace Keeping Organization (DPKO) that assists under developed countries in laying the foundations for sustainable peace and development.
She serves on multiple boards dedicated to promoting diversity awareness and mutual inclusion such as: Interfaith Alliance of Central California, Rape Crisis Services, The Academy and Civic Education Taskforce. In 2015, she has been nominated to serve at President’s Commission on Human Relations and Equity that “supports acceptance and fairness at all levels of the University."
