Miriam Valdovinos is an assistant professor at the University of Denver, Graduate School of Social Work. Her scholarship is committed to addressing the health effects of intimate partner violence (IPV) experiences in Latinx families. She holds a PhD in social welfare and graduate certificate in feminist studies from the University of Washington. As a Xicana indigenous social welfare scholar, she centers testimonio narrative methodologies, culture, healing, and resistance.
Current Work:
A primary goal of Dr. Valdovinos' research agenda is to develop multi-pronged (individual, family, and community-based) culturally responsive intervention programs that address the effects of IPV on Latinx communities, while considering systemic constraints such as institutional racism and poverty. One of her current projects centers Latinx communities in Houston, Texas to develop health interventions that address diabetes and comorbid depression/anxiety as it relates to treatment adherence.
