Dr. Milagros Castillo-Montoya's research focuses on teaching and learning in higher education with a specific emphasis on equitable experiences and outcomes for first-generation college students and racially minoritized students. She explores this larger area of study by examining how teaching can contribute to the development of students' critical consciousness as well as studying how faculty learn to develop, enact, and improve equity-based teaching.
Current Work:
Dr. Castillo-Montoya is currently working on understanding how faculty learn to teach their subject matters with their diverse students in mind, how faculty of color experiences can be improved in the academy, and the role of service learning in the development of Latinx students' critical consciousness.
