About
Matthew A. Diemer is a developmental psychologist who harnesses quantitative methods to address issues of diversity, equity and justice. He received his PhD in counseling psychology from Boston College.
Current Work:
Matthew Diemer is currently funded by (a) the Spencer Foundation, to examine marginalized youths' conceptions of and actions to change and challenge societal inequality; (b) the National Science Foundation, to examine how racialized and/or gendered school climates corrode students' STEM achievement and decision-making; (c) and the William T Grant Foundation, to examine whether and how youth activism may more powerfully foster positive youth development and critical consciousness among historically marginalized youth than traditional out-of-school time organizations.
An ongoing program of research examines how family wealth (net worth, as well as specific wealth subcomponents) shapes the mediating processes that lead to children's educational and occupational success, over and above other markers of social class (i.e., household income, occupational status, and educational attainment).
