Dr. Magdalena L. Barrera is Interim Vice Provost for Faculty Success at San Jose State University. She has led programming at SJSU, as well as for other universities and national organizations, to help students bolster their academic resilience and junior faculty navigate pathways to tenure. A first-generation scholar, she has a bachelor’s degree in English and Latin American Studies from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in Modern Thought and Literature from Stanford University.
Current Work:
Dr. Barrera's current work explores the experiences of Latinx/a/o students in higher education. She is co-authoring a guide for first-generation Latinx/a/o students who are interested in pursuing graduate degrees in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
