About
In addition to being a sociologist, Ms. Richards is a licensed social worker. She received a bachelor's in sociology from Muskingum College, a master's in social work, and a PhD in sociology from the University of Chicago. During the course of her studies she has worked with historian David Sturtevant, psychologist, Bobby Wright and sociologist William Julius Wilson to name a few. She served as professor in sociology at the University of the District of Columbia for some 40+ years, also serving as the president of the Faculty Association/National Education Association. Ms. Richards received fellowships from: The National Disease and Rehabilitation Institute (NDRI) / Medical Health Institute in New York City, a teaching grant from the Social Science Research Counsel, minority teaching grant from the American Evaluation Association, and has done evaluations and served on the DC Initiative to reduce infant mortality through the National Institute for Maternal and Child Health.
Current Work:
Currently she has continued to advise students involved in graduate research projects, been participating as an observer at the National Science Foundation, and has served at the Goodwill Academy in Washington, DC towards insight into issues of adult education for at risk populations. She is currently researching and writing about issues of public education.
