About
Leslie Jo (LJ) Shelton, PhD (she/her/hers) is an assistant professor of higher education and program coordinator of the Higher Education MEd at the University of Arkansas. She has worked in various student affairs functional areas at multiple institutions, and holds a bachelor’s in sociology and a women’s studies certificate from Ohio University, a master’s degree in college student personnel from Ohio University, and a doctoral degree in higher, adult, and lifelong education from Michigan State University. She is an active member of professional organizations ACPA and NASPA, including representing region IV-W in the 2017 NASPA Emerging Faculty Leaders Academy cohort, and the ACPA Commission for Professional Preparation board. Her areas of teaching and scholarship focus on college student learning and development.
Current Work:
Dr. Shelton's scholarship focuses on the experiences of college student learning and development, including college student development theory, and understanding how higher education/student affairs (HESA) educators can support minoritized college students, specifically for undocumented students and LGBTQ+ students. She also examines the learning outcomes of (HESA) graduate preparation programs, especially related to the ACPA/NASPA competency of social justice and inclusion (SJI) and internationalizing graduate preparation programs.
