LaShawnDa Pittman is an assistant professor in the American Ethnic Studies Department at the University of Washington. She received her PhD in sociology at Northwestern University. Recently, she was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Poverty Research at the University of Wisconsin and a National Science Foundation (NSF) postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Sociology at Georgia State University. In 2011, she completed a postdoctoral fellow at the National Poverty Center at the University of Michigan.
In addition to research on grandparent caregiving and intergenerational families, her interests include social inequality; poverty; race, class, and gender; HIV/AIDS; and health disparities.
Current Work:
Dr. Pittman-Gay is currently working on a book manuscript and peer reviewed articles related to black custodial grandmothers.
