About
Dr. Jonathan Cox is an assistant professor of sociology at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. He is a graduate of Hampton University, with a master’s degree in college student affairs from Penn State University, and a master’s and PhD in sociology from the University of Maryland. Prior to earning his PhD, Jonathan worked at Wake Forest University as the assistant director for multicultural affairs. Jonathan’s research interests include racial and ethnic identities, racial ideology, the experiences of college students, and diversity and inclusion processes.
Current Work:
Dr. Cox is currently investigating the racial identities and racial ideologies of college Millennials. His research highlights the ways in which color-blind ideology differentially impacts the experiences of white Millennials and Millennials of color, with an intentional focus on intraracial differences among various minoritized groups. Additionally, Dr. Cox is looking at trends in faculty funding, particularly for external, private grants; diversity narratives in corporate America; and is spear-heading a collaborative project on the experiences of Latinx students at a newly-designated Hispanic Serving Institution.
