Gloria Parra Martinez-Ramos is a full tenured professor in Sociology at Texas State University. In the fall of 2018, Dr. Martinez-Ramos assumed the role of the inaugural director of Latina/o Studies at Texas State. Texas State University is located in Central Texas. Dr. Martinez-Ramos has over 14 years of experience teaching sociology. Recently, Dr. Martinez-Ramos started to teach and direct a new interdisciplinary program in Latina/o Studies. Dr. Martinez-Ramos teaches Sociology of Race and Ethnic Relations, Latinos and Immigration, Latinos and Aging, and Latina/o Studies.
Current Work:
Gloria Parra Martinez-Ramos has published research on the experiences of Latina breast cancer survivors, Latina/o quality of life and well-being in the US, inequality and health and aging, Latina/os in education. Dr. Martinez-Ramos is in the planning stages of a new research project that aims at understanding the financial impact of breast cancer among low-income race and ethnic minority women and their families in Central Texas. Additionally, Dr. Martinez-Ramos also engages in scholarship that examines teaching and learning in sociology of race and ethnic relations and Latina/o studies that teaches students about community studies, participatory action research, and public policy for civic engagement.
