About
Ga Young Chung is an assistant professor in the Department of Asian American Studies at the University of California, Davis. With interdisciplinary specializations in transnational and comparative methodologies in the study of race, youth, and citizenship, she brings to the society a perspective steeped in a commitment to equity and social justice. She has researched on the undocumented Korean immigrant youth activism while dedicating to work collaboratively with Korean American organizations.
Current Work:
In her academic projects, Dr. Chung examine how the meanings and practices of citizenship have been reassembled and rearticulated through Asian Americans' experiences. Emphasizing that "Asian American" references a heterogeneous set of populations, Dr. Chung examines their challenges in the context of the three components of citizenship-law, culture, and history-and how they intersect with other markers such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and class. Informed by transnational and interdisciplinary insights from education studies, global studies, and youth studies, her work is dedicated to expanding the field of Asian American studies.
