About
Dr. Dann Brown became dean of University College at Texas State University in 2011 and leads strategic initiatives to improve student success, strengthen the university's academic advising and student academic enrichment programming, and develop relationships with regional higher education achievement partners. Woven across these responsibilities has been the over-arching goal of improving outcomes for underrepresented populations through the development of best and successful practices, capture of external funding, outreach, and advocacy. During his career, Brown has been the author of six successful Title V, Title III, and CCRAA grant programs, all of which have been focused on strengthening institutional capacity to serve. He holds the doctorate from Oklahoma State University and master's and baccalaureate degrees from Pittsburg (KS) State University.
Current Work:
Dr. Brown's research focuses on measuring impacts and outcomes occurring as a result of implementing high impact practices on first year students. He is interested in synergistic and non-target effects of programs and services on student achievement with demonstrated impacts on the success of those historically under-served in college. Dr. Brown has developed a campus-specific attrition risk model used to link students with services enhancing success. A new focus involves challenges and opportunities impacting the success of Latinx transfer students and collaborations with community colleges.
