Dr. Cindy Vang is an assistant professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She completed her PhD from Arizona State University and MSW from California State University, Sacramento. As the daughter of Hmong refugees, her research lies at the intersection of aging, mental health, and social justice with a specific focus on understanding the aging experiences of older Southeast Asian refugees and immigrants and culturally-responsive mental health practices.
Current Work:
Dr. Vang's current research focus on the loneliness experiences of Hmong older adults and examining the cultural-responsiveness of adult day health programs on addressing the emotional and mental health needs of Southeast Asian (SEA) older adults. She is developing a proposal to examine intergenerational communication of COVID-19 among SEA older adults and their families with the aim to better support SEA older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic.
