About
Christina W. Yao, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. A proud native of Savannah, GA, she received her bachelor of arts in journalism at Marquette University and her master of education from Loyola University Chicago in higher education administration. She completed her doctor of philosophy in higher, adult, and lifelong education at Michigan State University. Christina is involved in several professional organizations including ASHE, CIES, and AERA. She currently serves as program co-chair for the CIES Higher Education SIG and an elected member-at-large in the ASHE Council on International Higher Education.
Current Work:
Dr. Christina W. Yao studies student engagement and learning in higher education, operationalized through three topical areas: international education, teaching and learning, and graduate education. Some current projects include a study on international students’ perception of US campus racial climate, collaborative studies on graduate students’ international engagement, and teaching and learning in transnational institutions in Vietnam. She has presented multiple academic and invited presentations and published several articles and book chapters related to the intersections of internationalization and racialization in higher education. In addition, she has received multiple internal and external grants for examining student learning and engagement.
