Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas
About
Cassaundra Rodriguez is a sociologist who specializes in the areas of immigration and citizenship, race, Latinx sociology, family, and gender. In particular, her research primarily tackles questions on (1) how citizenship and race are constructed in media and public discourse, and (2) how belonging is negotiated and claimed by immigrant and Latinx communities.
Current Work:
Professor Rodriguez’s first book Contested Americans: Mixed-Status Families in Anti-Immigrant Times centers on how members of mixed-status families – that is families that include U.S. citizens and undocumented immigrants – experience belonging and manage illegality in their lives. Aside from this work, Professor Rodriguez is working on a number of article projects related to immigration. She is also starting a new book-length project that uses youth mariachi as lens to understand how Latinos understand their educational pathways, identities, and belonging in Las Vegas.
