Bruce Pietrykowski is professor of economics at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He earned his BA in economics and urban studies from Livingston College of Rutgers University where he was a Paul Robeson Scholar. He worked as a tenant organizer in New Jersey prior to attending the New School for Social Research where he graduated with an MA and PhD in economics. At UM-Dearborn he has served as associate dean and directed Urban Studies and the Center for Labor and Community Studies.
Current Work:
Bruce Pietrykowski is currently conducting research on the economic experience of low-wage workers. This includes publications examining the economic case for higher wages exemplified by the "Fight for $15" campaign, the return to caring skills and gendered norms in low-wage occupations and technological change, robotics and the demand for labor among low-wage service sector workers. He recently published a book entitled Work (Polity Books, 2019).
