About
Ashley Lacombe-Duncan, PhD, MSW is assistant professor in the School of Social Work and core faculty at the Center for Sexuality and Health Disparities at U-M, as well as adjunct scientist at Women's College Hospital in Toronto, Canada. Her research focuses on healthcare access and health equity, with a particular emphasis on healthcare access for people who experience multiple forms of intersecting oppressions. Specifically, her research focuses on two main areas: (1) understanding barriers to access to care, including HIV care, for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people; and, (2) developing/adapting, pilot testing and evaluating interventions to increase HIV care engagement among LGBTQ+ people living with HIV. Ashley's work is conducted in both Canada and the U.S., primarily using community-based participatory methods.
Current Work:
Currently, Ashley is analyzing data and publishing papers from her project entitled "LGBTQ people’s disclosure and support seeking on social media when experiencing pregnancy loss" (Co-PI's Andalibi and Roosevelt). She is also collecting new pilot data focused on understanding the health care needs and experiences of trans people in the Southern U.S. In Canada, Ashley's current projects include developing a scale to measure trans women's satisfaction with feminizing hormone therapy and developing a trans women-centered HIV care model. Both of these projects seek to improve the health care experience for trans women, including trans women living with HIV.
