About
Ashley E. Cureton is a Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Education and a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at Johns Hopkins University. She serves as President of the Homewood Postdoctoral Association (HW-PDA). Ashley explores the educational and mental health needs and outcomes of migrant and refugee children and youth and their families.
Current Work:
In collaboration with Catholic Charities — Esperanza Center, Ashley is conducting a qualitative, phenomenological study to explore Latino/a ELL students' and their parents’ lived experiences and adaptation to remote learning during COVID-19. The study sample will consist of 15 students, 15 parents, and 5 staff members from Esperanza Center. With the potential of school closures continuing intermittently in the coming years, this project will inform how school districts and organizations support the educational needs of ELL families.
