Aria S. Halliday, PhD is Assistant Professor in the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies and program in African American and Africana Studies at the University of Kentucky. Black feminist theory informs her research, in which she examines the cultural constructions of Black women’s and girls’ sexual expression in popular culture. Dr. Halliday is the editor of The Black Girlhood Studies Collection (Women’s Press, 2019) and a Woodrow Wilson Career Enhancement Fellow (2020-2021).
Current Work:
Dr. Halliday’s research explores cultural constructions of black girlhood and womanhood in material, visual, and digital culture in the 20th and 21st centuries. She specializes in representations created by Black women and girls that explore ideas of race, gender, sexuality, and consumerism in popular culture.
