About
Araceli Martinez Ortiz, PhD, is the executive director and research associate professor of the LBJ Institute for STEM Education and Research at Texas State University. She teaches courses in the Department of Engineering Technology and in science and mathematics education in the College of Education. She conducts research related to gender inequities in the STEM fields and manages a research portfolio focused on supporting K-20 students from historically underrepresented groups in the STEM workforce.
Current Work:
Araceli Martinez Ortiz's research involves active learning approaches to support students' academic journeys while investigating the concepts of interest, motivation, identity and learning in engineering education. She designs and runs externally funded national intervention and research efforts involving women in engineering and historically underrepresented students in STEM in the United States. She also conducts comparative studies for women leaders in STEM in Australia, Ethiopia, Mexico, South America and the US.
