Alfred P. Flores received his PhD in history from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and earned his MA (public history) and BA degrees in history from the University of California, Riverside. His research has been funded by the UC Center for New Racial Studies, the UCLA Institute for Research on Labor and Employment, the UCLA Institute of American Cultures, and the Western History Association. His work has appeared in American Quarterly, Amerasia Journal, and Choice Magazine.
Current Work:
Dr. Flores' current book project is tentatively entitled, "Little Island into Mighty Base": Race, Settler Colonialism, and US Empire in Guam, 1944-1962. This manuscript examines the post-World War II US military expansion of Guam as a settler colonial project that transformed the island into a major military location.
