About
Dr. Dixson earned a BA in music theory and composition from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University in Ohio, and an MA in educational studies at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. She earned her PhD in multicultural education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Dixson currently serves as a professor of critical race theory and education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Current Work:
Dr. Dixson's scholarship examines the intersectionality of race, class and gender in urban educational contexts, with a particular interest in how these issues impact educational equity for students and people of color in the urban south. Current projects include, an NSF-funded project that looks at community-based STEM programs in the southwestern United States and the Pacific Northwest; a Spencer Foundation funded project that examines how education research is informed by public engagement via radio programming; a Kellogg Foundation funded project that examines the impact of high quality professional development on culturally relevant pedagogy and the retention of Black teachers in New Orleans.
