About
Dr. S. Lavi Wilson received her bachelor's in psychology from the University of Connecticut-Storrs, master's of science in social work (MSSW) with a concentration in mental health and substance abuse from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her doctor of social work (DSW) with a concentration in clinical practice and leadership from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. She is a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and Certified Alcohol Tobacco and Drug Social Worker (CCATODSW). Her direct practice includes providing mental health and substance abuse therapy to individuals, groups, and families. She has experience working at a university student health center, university counseling center, private practice, and community mental health agencies.
Current Work:
Dr. Wilson's research interests include but are not limited to: clinical social work practice, assessing effective mental health and substance abuse services, studying the effectiveness of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness interventions with African American college students, assessing the consequences of young adult alcohol and substance use, racial identity and mental health, Colorism and mental health, financial literacy and social work, social work education and technology, collegiate homelessness, and implicit bias in mental health diagnosis of African Americans. Her upcoming projects will focus on clinician and social work trainee implicit bias.
