Dr. Marvin Solberg's research examines the relationship between childhood adversity and psychiatric health outcomes in young adults from historically marginalized populations. His dissertation examined the effects of childhood adversity on mental health outcomes (depressive and anxious symptomology, current stress) and substance use (alcohol, cannabis, tobacco, and e-cigarette use) behaviors in Black and White young adults. Dr. Solberg additionally investigated the mediating role of coping in the childhood adversity and outcome axis. His clinical expertise is in psychiatric nursing with experience in inpatient psychiatry, addiction medicine, and psychiatric emergency.
Current Work:
To further understand the relationship between childhood adversities and psychiatric health outcomes, Dr. Solberg plans to investigate the physiological mechanism of systemic inflammation in the childhood adversity and psychiatric health outcome axis.
