Dr. Maria Resendiz is an associate professor in the department of communication disorders at Texas State University. Her research involves reducing healthcare disparities, both internationally and locally. She specifically focuses on how to make speech-language pathology services available to people with limited access. She works with clients from bilingual and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Currently, she collaborates with colleagues from engineering, counseling, linguistics, and community partners who provide cleft palate services to clients locally and internationally.
Current Work:
Dr. Resendiz's current projects include development of an app for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in collaboration with engineers, training therapists in countries to provide speech therapy in their home country, developing translation guidelines for speech-language pathologists, and making students aware of health disparities while providing them with guidance as they serve clients from medically underserved areas.
