Kelly Nielsen is a senior research analyst at the Center for Research and Evaluation at UC San Diego Extension. He was previously a postdoctoral scholar in the department of sociology at Cornell University and the Department of Sociology at UC Merced.
Current Work:
Kelly's scholarship focuses on student experiences in higher education and the organizational sources of inequality and equity. His recent book, Broke: The Racial Consequences of Underfunding Public Universities, explores the challenges facing two public research universities serving large numbers of Black and Latinx students and the steps they are taking to create a more equitable system of higher education.
