About
A. Lamont Williams is an assistant professor of sport management in the department of kinesiology at San José State University. Prior to joining the faculty at SJSU, Lamont completed his PhD in sport management at Florida State University, and master's and undergraduate degrees at Western Illinois University. Dr. Williams is a scholar-activist who teaches primarily in the sport management focus area, while also advising students across the nation and continually developing industry opportunities for student advancement.
Current Work:
Dr. Williams' research interests are interdisciplinary in nature, covering Critical Race Theory, sport law, social justice, activism, and intercollegiate athletics. In simple terms, Dr. Williams focuses on issues related to addressing historical and contemporary social issues related to structural racism, sexism, and the diverse array of 'ism' research regarding people from marginalized communities.
Currently, Dr. Williams is working with industry leaders and academics in order to develop a better system to ensure the success of athletes of color across the globe. He is working to ensure that every athlete is given the opportunity to make the best of their lives on- and off the playing field, specifically in regard to professional development and academic advancement.
