The Faculty of the Native American Studies Program at the University of Michigan wishes to offer our deepest Sympathy with, and to pledge our solidarity to the African American community on our campus and across the nation. We are witnessing the reality of the anti-black violence and systemic
racial oppression that has been experienced by African Americans for the past four hundred years. We join our voices to theirs to call for an end to this systemic injustice. We experience this violence and oppression in the midst of a global pandemic, a reminder of the catastrophic epidemics, violence, land theft, loss of life, and environmental destruction brought on by the ongoing colonization of North America.
