The Native American Studies Program would like to congratulate our graduate students earning Ph.D.'s this year.

Kelly Fayard, Ph.D., Anthropology: "We've Always Known Who We Are: Belonging within the Poarch Band of Creek Indians." Next year, Kelly begins a tenure-track job at Bowdoin in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.

John Low, Ph.D., American Culture: "Chicago's First Urban Indians - the Potawatomi." Next year, John will be a visiting Assistant Professor at Northwestern University in the Department of History and the Programs in American Studies and Legal Studies.

Angela Parker, Ph.D., History: "Taken Lands: Territory and Sovereignty on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservations, 1934-1960." Next year, Angela will begin a tenure-track job at Dartmouth in the Native American Studies Program.

Kiara Vigil, Ph.D., American Culture: "Stories in Red and Write: Indian Intellectuals and the American imagination, 1880-1930."  For 2011-12 academic year she will be returning for the second year of a two-year fellowship at Williams College as the Bolin Fellow in American Studies.  She will be teaching a seminar there in the spring of 2012 titled, "Introduction to Native American Studies."
