Museum Studies Minor alumnus (UM'14) and evolutionary biologist Charlie Engelman: As a UM senior, Charlie competed with 700 applicants to win the National Geographic Channel's Expedition Granted contest. The $50,000 prize funded the production of an online video series chronicling Charlie's adentures in the nation's forests which then evolved into the TV series, "Nature Boom Time." That motivated him to pitch a nature video series to UM's Museum of Zoology in order to complete his UM honors thesis in ecology and evolutionary biology. Charlie now works at the zoology museum directing a science/teaching video series illuminating the museum's collections that promotes the breadth and depth of the specimen collections and inspires viewers to visit sience museums and pursue science careers.
