On November 12, the European Space Agency's Rosetta spacecraft will deploy the Philae lander in the first ever attempt to land a probe on a comet.
Philae will complete a number of firsts: it will return the first images from the surface of a comet and use its instruments to conduct the first analysis of a comet's composition while on the surface.

Engineers at SPRL built electronic components for a Rosetta onboard instrument that's believed to be the most sensitive of its kind ever flown in space.
Professor Mike Combi is a Co-Investigator on two of the Rosetta spacecraft instruments, the VIRTIS visible and infrared spectrometer and on ROSINA the mass spectrometer.
Professor Tamas Gombosi and Research Associate Professor K.C. Hansen are Co-Investigators of the ROSINA ion-neutral mass spectrometer on Rosetta.
