Giving

The vision for the Michigan Institute for Research in Astrophysics (MIRA) is as broad as the field that inspires it. Quite simply we want to reveal the universe’s deepest, most fundamental mysteries, from how it was formed to where it’s headed. We want to understand the conditions required for Earth-like planets to form — and in doing so, get clues as to where Earth’s nearest cousins might lie. We want to crack the mysteries of dark matter and energy — and learn how black holes might shape a galaxy’s destiny.

U-M has worked hard to put its astrophysics program on the map — hiring exceptional faculty, securing a stake in leading telescopes like Magellan, propelling its graduates into top fellowships and faculty positions, and fostering research that pushes the boundaries of our understanding. But we can take it further.

You can help make this happen. Gifts to MIRA go directly to activities that support frontier research: workshops and conferences that catalyze new thinking; visiting scholars who collaborate and inspire; and fellowships that bring the best minds to Michigan to help realize our vision.

Some of these are now underway; others can be made possible with your support.
