Students earn a full semester of academic credit while participating in Michigan in Washington.
· Prior to leaving, students participate in a professional development class (2 credits) to learn career-building skills, from landing a job, to collaborating across partisan lines, to pro tips about how to make the most of your time in DC.
· Internships earn 2 credits. Most students work Monday through Thursday, 9-5.
· All students take a core research seminar (4 credits), where students learn to diagnose and analyze a policy problem and communicate that analysis effectively in a range of formats, from analytical reports to oral briefings. This class fulfills the upper-level writing requirement.
· Electives (3 credits each) are taught by faculty from U-M and other universities; typically students have a choice of 5-6 courses. Students take one or two electives.
· The Washington Experience (1 credit) is a required course featuring prominent local speakers.
