On November 14, 2023, Viet Tran spoke to the MIW Fall 2023 Cohort.
Viet Tran is Press Secretary for the Office of Communications at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) under the Biden-Harris Administration. He is responsible for leading media relations and outreach to inform the public of the Director’s goals, plans, and various activities through media outlets.
Viet comes to OPM as a seasoned communications strategist with experience developing national, regional, and local media campaigns. He recently served as a communications consultant to organizations, nonprofits, and state agencies. Previously, he was a press secretary at the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest LGBTQ civil rights organization.
Viet has held various leadership capacities throughout his career, including serving on the Board of Directors for the Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership and as a regional ambassador with the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) under the Obama-Biden Administration. He also served as a speechwriter and media advisor to the AAPIs for the Biden coalition within the Biden-Harris Campaign.
Viet is a proud graduate of UC San Diego, where he received a B.A. in Political Science.
