Premodern Colloquium: Living in Suspicion: Priests and Their Housekeepers in Pre-Reformation England

Janelle Werner is the Marlene Crandell Francis Assistant Professor in the Humanities at Kalamazoo College, where she teaches courses on medieval and early modern Europe, the history of gender and sexuality, and women’s studies. Her current book project, "Just As the Priests Have Their Wives": Priests and Concubines in England, 1375-1559, examines both cultural perceptions of clerical concubinage and the lived experiences of priests, concubines, and their children in late medieval England.
