MCSP students founded two performance groups during their years in the program: Students Helping Others Choose Knowledgeably (S.H.O.C.K.) and Smile Bringer Singers (SBS). These student initiatives strive towards engaging themselves with the community to bring about positive change to all populations. The groups contain a mix of MCSP first-year students, student leaders, and alums, all working together to achieve their group's mission and goals. MCSP is extremely proud of the work that these two groups are doing, and encourage all MCSPers to get involved with these groups and other initiatives within the program. Bravo!

S.H.O.C.K. creates and performs original skits to elementary school students, educating them about substance abuse and encouraging them to remain drug free. Featuring characters that kids know and love (e.g. Harry Potter, Toy Story), these skits are performed across the Ann Arbor community in fifth grade classrooms. SHOCK has been an MCSP staple since the program started in 1999, and energetic students act, direct, and create skits, and handle behind-the-scenes tasks. During this school year, S.H.O.C.K. performed at 8 elementary schools, wrapping up the year this past Friday at Angell Elementary.

MCSP’s newest student group takes a musical approach to community service. Started by first-year Sasha Altschuler, the Smile Bringer Singers perform uplifting songs at local shelters, hospitals and nursing homes. They have spread much joy and happiness through harmonies throughout Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, and they sing an inspiring set at MCSP's "Circle of Unity" on Martin Luther King Jr. Day every year. This year, they have made appearances at multiple locations, and finished the year off with a successful concert at the Michigan League two weeks ago.
