The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology has opened searches for faculty in neuroscience and a shared position with the Department of Mathematics in mathmatics/computational biology. For full consideration, apply before October 14, 2016.

Women and underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply. The University of Michigan is supportive of the needs of dual career couples and is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.

Neuroscience

MCDB welcomes applications from neuroscientists for faculty positions at the assistant professor level, but appointment at a more senior level is possible for applicants with suitable experience. We seek to fill an open position in the field of neuroscience broadly defined. We encourage applications from scientists who use cellular, genetic, molecular, and/or in vivo imaging approaches. The faculty position will be tenure track or tenured with a university year appointment starting September 1, 2017 or January 1, 2018. Successful candidates will be expected to establish a vigorous, extramurally funded research program and to be involved with instruction of both undergraduate and graduate students. See further information about MCDB research areas.

All applications must be submitted on-line. You will be asked to upload the following materials: A cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a brief summary of recent research accomplishments and statement of future research plans, a statement of teaching philosophy and experience, and evidence of teaching excellence for those who have teaching experience. Candidates for appointment at the assistant professor level should provide names and contact information for at least three references, as instructed in the on-line application form. To ensure full consideration, all materials should be received by October 14, 2016.

Mathematics /Computational Biology

The Department of Mathematics and the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB)  solicit applications for faculty positions in mathematical/computational biology at the assistant professor level, but appointment at a more senior level is possible for applicants with suitable experience. We encourage applications from scientists with a strong background in the life sciences who use mathematical modeling, or apply computational approaches to large datasets to understand basic cellular, genetic, developmental and/or physiological processes. We are most interested in candidates who not only use, but also develop cutting edge models and tools from applied, computational and/or interdisciplinary mathematics to solve real world problems in the biological sciences.

The faculty position will be tenure track or tenured with a university year appointment starting September 1, 2017 or January 1, 2018. Successful candidates will be expected to establish a vigorous, extramurally funded research program and to be involved with instruction of both undergraduate and graduate students. For further information about research areas visit the UM Mathematics website and for MCDB, the research section of this website.
