The Wetland Adventure Game and Backpack Discovery Walk were developed by Ann Arbor Public School and University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens environmental education specialists, including David Szygiel, John Stahly, Kathy Claflin, Sheila Schueller, Liz Glynn and T.J. Smith with the support of a James A. and Faith Knight Foundation Grant.

The goal of this project is to provide thousands of Ann Arbor Public School and other Southeastern Michigan school children who go on outdoor field trips during the school year with an opportunity to engage, together with their parents, in meaningful follow-up activities that impart a deeper understanding and appreciation of their local environments. Although the program is aimed at 3rd to 5th grade students, it can be enjoyed by all ages!
