Frances Allen, who received her Master's Degree in Mathematics from UM in 1957, passed away at the age of 88. After graduating, she joined IBM, and had a 45 year career with the company. Frances recorded many "firsts" in the industry, including being the first woman to receive the Turing Award in 2006. She is profiled on page 18 of the 2007 ContinuUM.
