In algebraic geometry, even if one is only interested in smooth spaces, it is inevitable that some singular spaces will arise, even from the most basic operations like intersecting smooth varieties or looking at fibers of morphisms. In this talk, I will describe several classes of singularities and some tools which are used in the study of singularities. Speaker(s): Brad Dirks (Michigan)
