Zariski's main theorem can be thought of as a far reaching generalization of Hilbert's Nullstellensatz with many important consequences in Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry. In this talk we'll understand (several forms of) the statement of this theorem. Then we'll sketch an algebraic proof that uses only material from Math 614. We'll not assume any familiarity beyond the basic concepts from Math 614.
