Student Commutative Algebra Seminar

Integral closure of ideals
Thursday, October 29, 2020
5:00-6:00 PM
Off Campus Location
I'll define the notion of what it means for an element to be integral over an ideal and then talk about the integral closure of an ideal, also providing a geometric definition of the same. I'll then go over the case of monomial ideals in detail where we can very explicitly describe the integral closure. If time permits, I'll briefly talk about the Briancon-Skoda theorem and provide a sketch of the proof.
