In high school, you probably learned formulas for the effective resistance when combining resistors in series or in parallel. What you probably didn't learn in high school is that there is a great combinatorial formula for calculating effective resistance for an arbitrarily complicated resistor network. We will discuss this formula and some applications to tropical geometry. Speaker(s): Harry Richman (UM)
