From holomorphic differentials to Witten's r-spin class
Thursday, November 8, 2018

1866 East Hall Map
Inside the moduli of Riemann surfaces (and its Deligne-Mumford compactification), there are natural loci given by considering only those Riemann surfaces admitting a holomorphic differential with prescribed zeros. Any such Riemann surface is obtained by gluing a polygon in the plane via translations.

The main question of this talk is how to compute the homology class in the moduli space of any of these loci. We will present a conjectural formula (joint with R. Pandharipande, A. Pixton and D. Zvonkine) that makes a connection to Witten's class, and outline the first step toward this conjecture (joint with Q. Chen, Y. Ruan and A. Sauvaget). Speaker(s): Felix Janda (University of Michigan)
