Teaching Mathematics Seminar

Inclusion and Assessment in the Introductory Program
Monday, September 24, 2018
5:15-6:30 PM
3866 East Hall Map
Last year the mathematics department was awarded a Whitaker grant from CRLT to explore the assessment practices in Math 105, 115, and 116 in context of the department's commitment to inclusion. Over the summer of 2018 we explored trends in the Math 115 exams over the past 15 years and began discussing the possible impact of these trends on underrepresented groups in mathematics. In this talk, I will present the trends we uncovered and discuss the potential impact of these trends on our inclusion efforts as well as some challenges of using more inclusive assessment practices in our very large coordinated introductory math courses.
