Loosely, the local Langlands conjecture gives a correspondence between the representations of a reductive algebraic group over a local field F and certain representations of the Weil group (a subgroup of the absolute Galois group of F). Here, we will discuss some of the terminology and ideas from representation theory and number theory needed to understand a more precise statement of the conjecture. Speaker(s): Jacob Haley (UM)
