In this talk, we'll define varieties over the integers and discuss how they can be viewed as a family of varieties over various fields. Then we'll explore some examples and see how a variety over the rationals can be stretched into a variety over the integers. Finally, we'll define what it means for a variety over the rationals to have good or bad reduction modulo a prime. If time permits, we'll also talk about elliptic curves over the rationals in more depth. Speaker(s): Patrick Lenning (UM)
