Examples of blowing up in algebraic geometry

Blowing up is the most fundamental transformation in birational geometry. In this talk I will give a lot of explicit examples and show how to use the blow-up construction to resolve singularities and rational maps. If time permits, I’ll explain its application in the study of moduli spaces.
