The top weight cohomology of the moduli space of algebraic curves is naturally identified (with a degree shift) with the reduced rational homology of a moduli space of stable tropical curves. I will discuss the structure of this tropical moduli space and applications to computing new cohomology classes on the moduli space of genus g curves, based on recent joint work with M. Chan and S. Galatius. Speaker(s): Sam Payne (Yale University)
