Our Marjorie Lee Browne (MLB) Scholars program, headed by Trace Jackson, has been remarkably successful in attracting underrepresented students to doctoral education in Applied Mathematics and its bounding fields by offering an enhanced Master’s degree as a stepping-stone for pursuing a PhD. Many of our MLB program alumni have gone on to PhD programs, both here and at other prestigious schools. We recently expanded the scope of the MLB program to include exposure to coursework and research in all of the major branches of mathematics. This new, broader vision for the MLB Scholars program allows students to tap into the full strength and richness of our department. And this program continues: in 2020 we will welcome our 10th cohort of Marjorie Lee Browne scholars!
